chris dingman: embrace

A strong yet gentle album by jazz vibraphonist Chris Dingman, Embrace (2020) was created during a period of transition and healing. That these compositions often share an introspective quality is thus no surprise. There is still plenty of room for variety, and the skilled Dingman transcends whatever limitations may be inherent to his chosen instrument, occasionally incorporating elements of West African music. He is ably supported by bassist Linda May Han Oh and drummer Tim Keiper, their subtle playing a delicate frame allowing those luminous vibes to shine. This Embrace is warm and wonderful.
